Nicht Schadenfreude, aber Erleichterung, nicht mit den Unglücklichen tauschen zu müssen.< Die soweit ich weiss dreizehnteilige Bücherreihe "Eine Reihe betrüblicher Ereignisse" (noch nicht alle Bände sind erschienen), deren jedes Buch jeweils dreizehn Kapitel hat, ist ein Novum in der Literatur: zum einen ist es wohl das einzige Werk, von dem der eigene Autor zu lesen abrät. Das hat seinen Grund. "Eine Reihe betrüblicher Ereignisse" ist gnadenlos. Gnadenlos absurd, gnadenlos komisch, hin und wieder auch gnadenlos brutal, jedoch niemals roh. Die Buchreihe stellt eine Genremischung aus Kinderbuch, Märchen, Gutenacht-Geschichte, Krimi, Fantasyroman, Lach- und Sachgeschichte und Thriller dar, die ich bisher noch nie beobachtet habe, was bei rund zwei Romanen pro Woche erstaunlich ist. Auf jeden Fall geht das Konzept voll auf: Die Bücher sind anrührend, herrlich phantasievoll und manchmal auch einfach irrational, was den Effekt hervorruft, dass sowohl der junge Leser als auch der Erwachsene grosse Freude am Lesen haben. Beispiel: Einem Kind würde wohl nicht auffallen, dass das jüngste der drei Waisen, das immer nur ein Wort hervorbringt, das meistens keinen tieferen Sinn hat, an wohlplatzierten Stellen Fremdwörter benutzt. Die Wortverliebtheit des Autors ist immens, jeder, der die Bücher liest, lernt unweigerlich etwas aus allen Bereichen des Lebens dazu. Fazit: Ein congeniales Buch mit wundervoller Illustration und Bindung (unbedingt die Hardcover kaufen, die sind auch besser übersetzt!), das Leser jeden Alters zum schmunzeln, schaudern und mitfiebern bringt. Autor: Lemony Snickets einziger Lebenssinn war es, die Geschichte der Baudelaire-Waisen aufzuzeichnen. Dieses fürchterliche Vorhaben hat ihn zu zahlreichen Schauplätzen äusserst schrecklicher Verbrechen geführt, meist in der Nebensaison. Nachdem diese unmenschliche Aufgabe nun erfüllt ist, wird sich Lemony Snicket ganz einem zurückgezogenen Leben als Einsiedler hingeben. Rufus Beck ist als Hörbuchsprecher vor allem durch „Harry Potter“ populär geworden. Für die Interpretation hat er vier Goldene und vier Platin Schallplatten sowie 2008 den HÖRkulino im Rahmen des Deutschen Hörbuchpreises bekommen. Er ist bis heute einer der beliebtesten Hörbuchsprecher überhaupt.
